About this policy

This policy explains how Turf War handles information when you register, visit the website, or play through the website or its mobile apps. The game is organized by Brian, who can be reached by text at (765) 203-1774.

Information we collect

Registration: your name, email address, Discord username, home address, the coordinates and territory found for that address, your agreement to the rules, and the registration date.
Player profile: your player name, assigned color, home address, and home coordinates from your registration when you first sign in.
Sign-in: we use your registered email to send one-time links and codes. We store hashed sign-in tokens, an optional hashed password, and expiring sessions. We also keep hashed rate-limit identifiers for email addresses and IP addresses to limit sign-in abuse.
Location and gameplay: when you request a location check, your device sends its latitude, longitude, and reported accuracy. Successful GPS claims store coordinates, accuracy, player and territory identifiers, and timestamps. We also store ownership, scores, cards, trades, and other game actions.
Technical information: hosting and content providers may receive IP addresses, browser or device information, requested URLs, and access times when processing requests.

How information is used

Information is used to verify that your home is in the playable area, place home markers, verify claims, run the game, calculate results, contact participants about the season and prizes, and investigate errors or rule violations.

The current game does not include advertising or analytics trackers, and does not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising.

What other people can see

The map and game state can be viewed without signing in. Player names, colors, territory ownership, scores, claim activity and times, and game actions are shared through the game.

Player home coordinates are shared with the map. Home markers do not display the written address or identify the player by name, but their locations can reveal a home address. They should not be treated as anonymous or private. Registration contact details and written addresses are not displayed on the public game map.

The organizer can access stored registration and gameplay records to administer the game. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or needed to address abuse, safety concerns, or disputes.

External services

Home addresses are sent to the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder to obtain coordinates. The map loads tiles from OpenStreetMap, and the site loads some scripts, styles, and icons from unpkg and cdnjs. These services receive network requests, including your IP address and browser information; map tile requests also indicate the area being viewed. Their own privacy policies apply to their handling of those requests.

Location permission and storage

The game requests device location when you choose “Find my territory.” It does not continuously track your location in the background. You can deny or revoke location access in your browser or device settings; GPS claims require location access.

A secure, HTTP-only sign-in cookie keeps you signed in for up to 30 days; signing out revokes that session. Session cookies also protect forms and show registration confirmations. You can clear cookies and site storage through your browser settings; this resets local preferences but does not delete records stored by the game.

Retention and your choices

Records currently remain stored until removed by the organizer; there is no automatic deletion schedule. To ask about your information or request access, correction, or deletion, text Brian at (765) 203-1774. We may need to verify that the request is yours. Some records may need to be retained to resolve game disputes or meet legal obligations; we will explain any limits when responding.

You may stop playing at any time. No online system can guarantee complete security, and other people may retain copies of information already visible to them.

Children’s privacy

The game is not intended for children under 13. Do not submit information for a child under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact Brian so it can be reviewed and removed as appropriate.

Changes and contact
